Re-route Shre-shmoute

My countdown at school!

It is quite possible that the melee that was my coffee induced insomnia the other night also fueled a bout of delirium. As noted in my previous post, I became obsessed with re-routing the Washington portion of our bike ride. I guess it was sentimentality that spurred the idea because I spent a good portion of that night reworking and reworking possible stops to include 50 miles of bike trails and roads that I was familiar with; trails that I had spent many hours riding with my dad and thought it would be cool to include into this trip.

As it were, after a refreshing two hours of sleep and after bouncing ideas back and forth with husband, the decision to maintain the trip as previously finalized simply made more sense. If we re-routed, we not only added 60+ miles to the route, we also lost our first break day. Losing a break day that can be spent with my parents and with my pups and with napping just sounds ridiculous. And so here is the "Finalized Route".

Washington Route: Days 1-6

Oregon Route: Days 7-14

Northern California Route: Days 15-25

Middle-Southern California Route: Days 26-33

Route Finish: Days 34-36

I feel the need to add some thank you's as this trip moves closer, because (and I'm sorry if this comes off like an acceptance speech) we could not have made this trip real if people didn't help us out. And so THANK YOU! We are beyond grateful and hope the inconvenience is balanced out by our huge smiles.

Thank you mom and dad for watching Leah and Latimore while we're on our adventure. I doubt I'd feel anywhere near as comfortable with any other option. It makes me happy knowing they will be with you. AND, thank you for driving us up to the border and sending us off (and for dad joining the first day's ride)! AND, for dad picking us up in Raymond one day only to drop us back off two days later so we can stay at the house. Also, I'm excited to go camping with you two. We haven't all been camping together since...

Thank you Pam and Erik for watching over the house and for eating any of the vegetables that come up while we're away!

Thank you Emily and Jimmy for opening up your home and providing us a place to stay during one of our break days. I know you guys are working and we appreciate the flexibility of you letting us crash mid-week and interrupt your day to day lives. I'm also super excited to see you!

Thank you Natalie and Eric for also opening up your home and providing us a place to stay when we realized all the nearby campsites and hotels were already full in the area. I am definitely looking forward to 4th of July spent on the ocean!

Thank you Val and Denis for driving to Southern California to pick us up! I can't believe we are fortunate enough to have friends willing to do this for us. We are indebted to you indefinitely. I'd offer some wine and beer as a small token of appreciation, but I worry your home is overflowing at the moment.

Lastly, here is our updated calendar. It's "finalized" as long as nothing stupid happens. And this where if you have any inclination to join us for a ride or whatever can check your own availability.
